Part of the main tour of the route are called embankment, this road was abilitated through the
forest for carrying the train paths and in the steepest parts, and they build tunnels for saving the
hard terrains for tracking. In Mexiquillo exists nine principal tunnels, all of them with amplitude of
5mts and a height of 6 mts to make it easier the pass of the train without construction, the longest
comes from 100mts to 1,68km. They are built in form of vaults of canion. It’s highly recommended
to use flashlights during the trip because in the interior of the rock the visibility is low. The last
tunnel was blocked in the 2009 year by the fall of the soil occur in rainy season.
In the Porfiriato’s age started the promise of constructing one of the most important of the country
and Latin America’s: the railway of Durango-Mazatlan. The construction was suspended during the
revolution, restarting in 1928 until they reached El Salto. In 1951 the Miguel Aleman president,
from remote control from the Belmar hotel gives once again, the opening of the construction
during the management of Adolfo López Mateos he suspended the work indefinitely. One axis of
development that would maybe change the destiny of our Durango city and the places
where it was projected to pass. After this great human and economical enforcement, they
prepared works, the built never conclude and everything there was lost between the ghosts of
their own victims…until now.
The trace and border of the railway even when still incomplete from the
El Salto passing by numerous ranch’s and continuing unto passing exactly near the Mexiquillo cascade
where after many years of been abandoned, once again it will recover life, but for now as an adventure
tourist resource.
